Ghummakkad Narain embarks on its annual pilgrimage to Dehra Dun

The 9th edition of Ghummakkad Narain - the Travelling Literature Festival which was started in 2010 in the memory of Thakur Vishva Narain Singh will be back in Dehra Dun to reach out to school children on 24 and 25 August 2018. The aim of the festival is to travel and reach out to as many children as possible to kindle the joy of reading amongst them. This year the festival will visit Jaswant Modern School, The Heritage School and the Raksha Anusandhan Vidhyalaya schools in Dehra Dun.

Writers this year include Dehra Dun's own author, Shaguna Gahilote who together with her sister Prarthana Gahilote brought out a book on folktales, called the, Curious Tales from the Himalayas. The book is a collection of folktales from the Himalayas and received a foreword by His Holiness The Dalai Lama where he emphasised that folktales is an important aspect of the culture of the Himalayan people. The book was a sell out within the first six months of its publication and has received rave reviews from children and adults alike, including from film-maker Vishal Bhardwaj, Imtiaz Ali, author Namita Gokhale and musician Mohit Chauhan.

The other writers include Archana & Shruti Gorodia who will be simplifying History for the kids by giving a talk and holding a quiz. Archana being a well-known Quiz master herself. There would also be Roopal Kewalaya who will be holding a mix of sessions for all age group, ranging from Empathy building to gender sensitisation to creative writing. There would also be Roshen Dalal who will be speaking to students on the importance of knowing one's history.
